Real Estate Broker Stresses Back to Basics Approach

Her message to agents: Follow through, follow through, follow through

(Boonton, NJ, December 15, 2011) — Many brokers started in the business as agents, but Leah Caro's career path began with answering the phone at a real estate office. She moved up the management ranks at Bronxville-Ley Real Estate in Bronxville, NY, and has owned the 45-agent company for 10 years. Caro says her lack of sales experience doesn't matter — while her agents are good at selling, she excels at running a company.

When the editor of Real Estate Broker's Insider asked Caro about the single most successful thing the company is doing right now, she focused on her back to basics approach.

"Somebody said that thinking outside the box is great if you've got the box mastered, and if you don't, get back in the box. That's really true.

"I have a written list of expectations for my office. It's simple stuff, but if it's not written down, nobody knows what's expected. It's things like: Be on time. Respond in a timely fashion to people. Know the inventory. Know the marketplace. Be a better agent. Do your homework. Do your due diligence. And — follow through, follow through, follow through, follow through. I nag my agents about that a lot."
