Real Estate Brokers: Protect Yourself Online

(Boonton, NJ, September 15, 2009) — Brokers and agents everywhere have flocked to the Internet in recent years. Even as Internet marketing has exploded, brokers' knowledge of the risks they face online has lagged, says attorney Darity Wesley, head of Privacy Solutions in La Mesa, CA.

In the September 15 issue of industry newsletter "Real Estate Broker's Insider," Wesley points to four areas of legal concern and recommends language for protecting your agency.

For example, she advises using plentiful disclaimers. Links to other sites are a staple online, and there's nothing wrong with using them - but keep in mind the risks that linking to other sites pose. Wesley suggests a disclaimer that reads something like this: "We are not responsible for the availability of any other site to which this site links. We do not take responsibility for the contents, advertising, products, privacy policies or other materials contained on other sites."
