Adapting Social Networking to Real Estate Sales

(Boonton, NJ, July 2, 2009) — Users of John L. Scott Real Estate's new social networking platform won't be able to tell their friends what they had for lunch or how annoying their waiter is.

But according to the July 1 issue of industry newsletter Real Estate Broker's Insider, they will be able to make comments about homes their friends are looking for.

Seattle-based John L. Scott recently launched JLSConnect, which it describes as a social networking site with a distinctly business-oriented slant.

"We are tapping into the social network environment, but really using it in a business setting to solve a problem," says Pat Giles, vice president of marketing at John L. Scott.

The problem, as she sees it, is that buyers quickly find themselves buried in an avalanche of emails. Husband and wife send emails to each other, to their agent, and probably to a friend or family member.

To simplify that process, JLSConnect lets home buyers store information about properties they're looking at in one place. Spouses, the agent, and friends can post comments Giles tells Real Estate Broker's Insider.
